Hypatia Book Fund and Library Project
___________

Dear Library Staff,

During recent years, increased interest in alternative spirituality has greatly expanded the number of titles available in this field. Because we understand that all libraries have a limited budget and cannot afford to buy *every* book that comes out, the members of the Pagan Leaders mailing list have developed a list of books, magazines, and other resources. Collated from many different recommended reading lists already in use, this list features those titles recommended most often by experienced practitioners and scholars. The resources listed here offer an accurate, positive presentation of the contemporary Pagan movement, related history, and the diverse nature religions we
practice.

For your convenience, a copy of this resource list is enclosed with this letter; you can also view an expanded version on several Websites including those of Whiteoak, the WyrdWeavers Collective, the
Beaded Amazon, and BAPA. Please feel free to duplicate the list and share it with other librarians, as long as you keep it intact. We hope you will find this resource useful in selecting which Pagan materials your library chooses to offer its patrons, as well as answering the questions of those patrons who express curiosity about Earth-centered belief systems.

This resource came about through the collective efforts of the Pagan Leaders membership; organized by Tara Miller and Elizabeth Barrette, this project also enjoys the support of the Pagan Educational Network. We have chosen to publish the recommended resource list in March to honor Hypatia of Alexandria, a famous Pagan scholar and mathematician of the ancient world; some Pagans observe Hypatia's Day (March 10) by making donations to libraries. This is our contribution to knowledge, through which we hope to encourage understanding and cooperation among people of different spiritual traditions. Our organization is not a publicity group per se, we do not work for any specific publisher, and we are not doing this for money; this is just a way for us to spread some accurate information about who Pagans are and what we do.

Thank you for your time and consideration. We appreciate your efforts to provide the public with information. If you have any questions about this project in particular, or about nature religions in general, please contact us.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Barrette, SageWoman columnist
